Top 10 Things To Do in Sydney, Australia

If you’re planning on visiting Sydney, Australia anytime soon, be sure to book a long trip, because there is plenty to see and do! Whether you’re a city-goer or a beach-goer, Sydney has something for everyone! After traveling to Sydney twice, I’ve come up with a list of the top 10 things you must do! Enjoy!

1. Visit the Opera House

This one is basically a given, how can you visit Sydney and NOT see the Opera House? It’s Australia’s most famous landmark! Not only is it a breathtaking view itself, but it also offers the best seat to see the magnificent Harbour Bridge as well! Book a ticket to see a show, take a backstage tour, or just take in the beauty from the outside.

2. Take a Stroll Through “The Rocks”

The Rocks precinct is known for its many cafes, shops, cool bars, and weekend markets. It’s the perfect place to have a few “cheeky beers” and then get your souvenir shopping on!

3. Ride the Ferry to Manly

Just a short 30 minute ferry ride will get you to the little surf town of Manly. Here you’ll find some of Sydney’s nicest beaches to spend a full day relaxing or surfing! Snorkel in the sheltered waters at Shelly Beach, take a lesson at surf school, or grab a bite at one of the many beachside restaurants.

4. Enjoy the Coogee to Bondi Beach Walk

There are many beaches between Coogee and Bondi, and what better way to see them all than a coastal walk to showcase Sydney’s finest ocean views. This four mile walk will take you past swimming areas, cafes, a cemetery, and of course, beaches, beaches and more beaches. Who knows, maybe you’ll even catch yourself on an episode of “Bondi Rescue” (hopefully not).

5. Shop in Darling Harbour

Darling Harbour has recently been renovated, and is now more beautiful than ever! With plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops, it’s easy to spend a few hours exploring the harbour.

6. Wine and Dine in Circular Quay

With stunning views of Sydney Harbour and The Bridge, Circular Quay is the best place to grab a drink or dinner. There are many acclaimed restaurants in the area, ranging from burger joints, to oyster bars, to dining on a cruise ship. You can also grab a ferry to Manly, Watsons Bay, or the Taronga Zoo!

7. Walk Over the Sydney Harbour Bridge

Nicknamed “The Coathanger”, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is an iconic landmark. Walking over the bridge is free and accessible to all, but for the bold and daring, there’s plenty of climbs that take you up over the structure itself. Book a sunset or twilight bridge climb to see panoramic views of the city skyline and harbour during the day and night!

8. Hike the Blue Mountains

Famous for its blue haze above the mountain tops, the Blue Mountains are a World Heritage Listed National Park and definitely worth a visit! With plenty of walking routes, lookouts, and breathtaking views, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! Since it’s only a little over an hour drive from the CBD, the Blue Mountains is a perfect day trip to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city!

9. Visit the Taronga Zoo

Overlooking the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, the Taronga Zoo is one of the most picturesque zoo’s in the world! It’s home to 3,000 exotic and native animals, including koalas, kangaroos, gorillas, giraffes, elephants, seals and more!

10. Picnic in Hyde Park

For a green inner-city experience, go for a picnic in Hyde Park! There’s constant access to it with public transportation, and plenty of grassy areas to lay out a blanket and relax. In the park there are water fountains, a view of the city, and the beautiful ANZAC Memorial Building (be sure to check it out at night when it’s all lit up!)
